Ian’s Message
This website began as an idea I had one day daydreaming in a geography class at CU Boulder. My original goal was to raise funds for philanthropy and social change using creative writing. Since then I have devoted a fair amount of time refining and developing the idea to make this a reality. When I originally created the site, I thought perhaps I was asking too much of the postmodern person to sit down and actually read something, compared to other popular mediums and forms of entertainment. However, once I began reading the stories that poured in, I gained a revived appreciation for the diversity of the medium. Trust me I have read everything; x-rated, drug induced, crazed diatribes, narcissistic manifestos, and much more disturbing subjects (I am still debating whether or not to report that guy to the authorities). I however remain optimistic about The Zip Book as a social experiment, and I am eagerly watching as it develops and gains character. Your involvement is what makes this site interesting; your enthusiasm, your stories, and yes, your checkbook. So thank you everyone who has participated in whatever way. In the months to come we will be actively seeking innovative writing from a variety of perspectives, on topics from here to infinity. I hereby give The Zip Book to you, to do as you please, and raise some well needed money for philanthropy along the way.
Sincerely, Ian Dunham
P.S. I will be at the annual Philadelphia Zine Fest 2007 @ The Rotunda, in West Philadelphia, Sunday, October 7, 2007, 12-6 pm. More info at http://www.phillyzinefest.com/ |
